My version of "the look for less"

I took a trip to the Crate and Barrel near my house for the first time and I was surprised to find many of the items in the store looked like things I had seen before in thrift stores and cheap department stores. You can't beat the quality of the workmanship in the Crate & Barrel items but you can get pretty close for a whole lot less. Which is good news for those of us who aren't monetarily gifted!

Side Chairs

Crate & Barrel - Blake Lounge Chair $799

Savers - $25 + reupholstering and cleaning

Starburst Mirrors

Crate & Barrel - Dahlia Mirror $299

Kohls - $60, the fake gems can be removed with a pair of wire cutters and a file.

Square Dinner Plates

Crate & Barrel - Court Dinnerware 4 place settings $60

Target - on clearance for $35 (this is the box in my house, totally bought these)

Mirrors

Homegoods - $40

Savers - $8

  1. I can't believe the similarities between the Home Goods Mirror and the Savers mirror. Crazy!! We ought to learn how to reupholster chairs...that would be fun to do.

  2. Yeah man, I had seen the mirror in Savers first (actually, i bought it!) so when I saw the one in Homegoods I was all like "Booyah!" It was very exciting.

Upholstery is definitely on my list of things to learn. I'll post a pic of this awesome couch I found that would make a perfect upholstery project.
